Newsroom » Colorado Machine Shop Closes Books on A Successful Year of Growth, Improvements, and Increased Demand for CNC Machining Services
Longmont based precision manufacturing facility works to close skills gap, upgrades its CNC turning capacity, and adds to staff of CNC machinists rounding out a profitable 2014
Longmont, CO - January 7, 2015 - Advanced Precision Machining (APM), an expanding and innovative leader among area CNC machine shops, announced today the successful end to another year in which demand for its milling and machining services experienced an increase and growth initiatives flourished. For APM's facility, the 2014 calendar year was highlighted by its continuing efforts to educate and deliver qualified CNC machinists to the labor pool, capital investment in new equipment and technology, and the addition of new personnel in support of its expansion plans.
Within the precision manufacturing sector in 2014, CNC machine shop operations faced continued difficulty in finding experienced machinists to fill positions. APM co-owner Kirk Tuesburg remained actively involved with Front Range Community College (FRCC) instructing, consulting, and developing curriculum for CNC machining courses aimed at confronting the labor shortage head-on and delivering new talent to the workforce. APM contributed in the development of FRCC's new Advanced Technology Center with more classroom space and a larger machine shop floor. Adding to its own labor pool, the last quarter of 2014 resulted in the realization of a long-term growth initiative as APM welcomed two new CNC machinists into the fold. Dan Walcott and Steven Buchta bring over 60 years of combined CNC milling, turning, and programming experience to the table and have proven to be great hires by delivering a quality end product.
In order to maintain a competitive advantage and meet the increased demand for its machine shop services, APM continued to invest in new high speed machining technology. Most notably in 2014, the company vastly improved upon its capacity for CNC turning and CNC lathe work with the purchase of a Bridgeport/ROMI with EZ-Path-S Control. This new dual-axis lathe results in more efficient and precise turning operations, in addition to the ability to now perform facing cycles, parting, grooving, boring, drilling, threading, and more applications. The company now has the capacity to handle all manner of prototype quantities, full production runs, and some heavy-duty applications.
